How can I showcase a 250 year old typeface to encourage others to use it?

There are millions of typefaces to choose from, but my goal was to create a poster that would encourage others to choose Baskerville. I decided to take a more technical approach and really showcase what makes Baskerville unique.

Letting the font choose me

For this project, a collection of typefaces where put into a hat and each person drew from the hat to decide their typeface. When drawing, I was assigned Baskerville (1757).

The constraints

For this project, each poster had to include specific items:

• The name of the font
• The typeface designer’s name
• Alphanumeric alphabet
• Black and white, with one color of our choice.

I began this project by creating a series of sketches to explore the various arrangements of information and flow of the poster.
